Flew the Coop

The Eastern Phoebe Family that was living in our garage was about ready to fly away soon.  The mom  has been busy catching bugs and feeding the little ones.

The mom also shows the chicks how to flap their wings to fly.

I checked on them this morning, and it was like they were waiting for me to take a picture before they left.  About 2 minutes after I took thos photo, all 4 chicks and their mom flew away. Hope to see them next year!

Garlic Harvest Time

When we got back from the cape, it was time to start harvesting the garlic. I think I should have over 300 plants this year.

First sample of the Hard Neck Variety cleaned up

The rest of the pictures show some of the garlic drying in the greehnouse.  last year I dried it in the house, but there are too many plants this year and I don't want to bring more bugs into the house.

HARD NECK:

SOFT NECK

I have about 6 more rows to pull when it gets cooler tonight!

Just picked 3 more rows of the Lorz Soft Neck Variety Ended up with about 120 bulbs of Lorz.   3  rows of the Transylvania variety to go, then I am done!

Lorz Soft Neck Garlic
I think I must have a total of over 400 garlic bulbs.  Bigger and better than last year. All the spring rain helped!

Just picked the last 3 rows.  All done and now drying in the shed.

Saturday: Wellfleet Flea Market, Final round of Mini-Golf. Packing to Leave

Saturday we drove up to the Wellfleet Drive-In Flea Market.  The weather was threatening and there were only about 85 dealers.  Nevertheless we shopped and bought a few items for resale.

Elly shopping

After the Flea market we had to play one final round of golf to break the 1-1-1 tie.  Elly won this round giving her the Cape Cod Vacation Championship!  Congratulations to Elly!

The obligatory waterfall selfie

Later that night we went to dinner, again, at the Land Ho! restaurant, Elly had the Swordfish, Steve had the Chicken Parm.  Both were excellent.

Friday: Brewster Mini-Golf, Brewster Historical Museum, Sesuit Harbor Cafe

We decided to play another round of Mini gold since the matches were tied at 1-1.  We  needed this round to break the tie.  As it turned out, Steve was up 4 strokes with 4 holes to play, but Elly rallied to tie Steve and even up the Cape Vacation Mini-Golf Tournamen! I think Steve choked!

Elly lining up a putt.

The Obligatory selfie at the waterfalls

At the Little House, there was a flyer for the Brewster Historical Museum.  When we got to the address there was just an old house and a long path to the beach.  There were no signs or anything so we decided to follow the path to beach and back. It was a nice half mile walk each way.

Google to the rescue, it seems we had and old brochure and museum moved to a more historically significant building.

Antique Barber's Chair
As we were leaving we had a nice long chat with the volunteer caretakers.  We asked where they go for seafood.  They directed us to the Sesuit Harbor Cafe.  We would have never even known it was there, it was behind the boat works at the harbor!

Best Steamers Ever, White shells & yellow solid flesh, Yum!

Cherrystone (Littleneck) clams on the Half-Shell
We ate a lot of fresh seafood.  The steamers were the best that I have had in a long time, plus the cherrystones on the half-shell were fantastically fresh!  I think we have finally had our fill of seafood this week.
