Thursday: Mini-Golf, Arnolds, Fort Hill, Snows, Spamalot

Planned to go play mini-gold at Arnold's and then get seafood for lunch. The Golf Course had a display of scale models of Cape Cod historic houses and places.

Scale Model of the Capt. Penniman House at Fort Hill
Steve had already won one round of golf, but Elly managed to destroy Steve on this round, so we were tied at 1 game each.  More rounds of mini-golf to come.
The obligatory Waterfall selfie.
After golfing, we ordered lobster rolls.  Each roll had more than 1/2 lobster on them . Yum again!

Lobster Rolls and fries.  They were packed with lobster!

After eating, we needed to go for a hike to walk off the lobster rolls and fries, so we drove over to the Fort Hill Wildlife Preserve & Trails.  The life size version of the Capt Penniman House was right there!
Full size Capt Penniman House, it is currently being restored

We parked across the street and followed the trail.

We deiced to followed what appeared to be a trail heading down to the shore,

Shore Trail

On the Shore Trail
Well, to our surprise, it turned out that the "shore" trail lead to nowhere! We decided that instead of turning back, we would blaze our way to the parking lot through a partially used trail. It was obvious, others have tried this route also.

"If you build it, they will come"

We finally made it back to the parking lot and made sure that we checked for ticks, since I had just gotten over a case of Lyme Disease.

Later that night we went to see an amateur production of 'Spamalot" at the Academy Playhouse in Orleans Center.  It was really funny and at the end they bring an audience member on stage.  he played right along and was hilarious!.

Inside theater before the play started. Cell phones had to be turned off during the production

Wednesday: Caught in the Rain & Best Dinner at "Cape Sea Grille"

We couldn't decide what to do today, the weather forecast was "iffy", but we decided to go to Nausett Beach in Orleans (not to be confused with Nausett Light Beach).  As we pulled into to parking lot it started raining a little and the lot was 3/4 full. So I looked at the weather radar on my phone and saw that a large squall was just about to hit the beach, but it was only sprinkling  Since we have never been here before, we decided to take a stroll to survey the beach even though it was sprinkling. When we got to the sand, we saw that the place was "packed", I called it "the sea of humanity."

Then the sky opened up, downpour, thunder & lightening.   Everyone on the beach and streamed off the beached.  Another mass of humanity, with umbrellas, towels, chairs, coolers, kids, etc rushing to get to their cars.  It was a sight to behold, what a movie.  We went back to the car to wait out the storm,

After about 20 minutes, the storm stopped we got out our stuff and headed to the beach.  All the people were gone!

The sun came out and we enjoyed the rest of the day at the beach with a lot less people.

For Dinner, we went to the Cape Sea Grille in Harwich.

Elly had the Seared Long Island Duck Breast with chipotle-mascarpone gnocchi, summer ratatouille of grilled vegetables, demi-glace & whipped roasted garlic-pork belly butter.  Sterve had the Pan Seared Whole Lobster with pancetta, potatoes, grilled asparagus & Calvados-saffron reduction.
The food was marvelous.

Tuesday: SiteSeeing, Private Beach, "Men On Boats"

Today was a little overcast and rain was expected so we decided to do some "site seeing" .  We headed down to Chatham and Morris island to explore the Monomoy Island Wildlife Refuge.

After a nice walk, we went to downtown Chatham.  Too many people for us! We visited a few Thrift Stores, but no bargains were to be found.  Drove a little further to Harwich Port, lot of people there also.  We had lunch at Brax Landing Restaurant.  We started out with oysters on the half shell, then Elly had the Salmon Caesar Salad, Steve hand the Stuffed Sole with newburg Sauce. Both were excellent.

When we got back to the house we decided to explore the beach that belongs to the Association. It was quiet and only 1 other family was there.

At 7:00 we had tickets to see the play "Men On Boats" at the Cape Rep Theatre in Brewster. The cast was all women and told a stylized story of a one-armed explorer and his 9 men that were lost on a Colorado River expedition in 1869. It was "ingenious & hilarious."

Monday: White Crest Beach - Wellfleet

Today, it was supposed to be a nice beach day (It was!) so we spent the day at White Crest Beach just relaxing and hanging out.  SPF was in abundance, so we did not get burned! Nice, especially after just coming off doxycycline due to a case of Lyme Disease that Steve had for three weeks.

After the beach, we went out to eat at Rock Harbor Grill in Orleans, then played miniature golf at Cape Escape Adventure Golf.  Steve won!

Cottage On Cape Cod, Dinner at Land-Ho

Arrived at our home for the week, met the owners who live across the driveway.  This place was built about 8 years ago, had a lightening strike last August and was completely renovated down to the studs for this season. The place is immaculate.  A real nice 'Little House".

View of the kitchen from the living room.  It is one bog open room and very bright with catedral ceilings with skylights.

View from the kitchen area.  The ladder is decorative and for the ownder to get to the loft area which we do not use as there is nothing up there.

After settling in and unpacking, we went out for dinner in the center of Orleans at Land-Ho.  The restaurant had eclectic decor with a plethora of  signs hanging around the establishment, Elly had the broiled scallops, I had the whole belly fried clams.  Not on our normal diet, but hey, we are on vacation!

After dinner we went for a ride to see the seashore in Wellfleet. We ended up at White Crest Beach.
