Jay Leno, Kim Kardasian, EXTRA! and Freeway Traffic

The freeways here are nothing like the highways at home in Massachusetts. We also joke about the bad Mass. drivers. Both are worse in So. Cal. The freeways are 4-6 lanes wide to accomodate all the people and traffic. There are lots of exits, drivers changing lanes without signalling and performing the "3-lane exit" maneuver. But I can handle it because I drive in Massachusetts!

With Jay Leno tickets in hand (although even with tickets, admission is nor guaranteed), we decided to brave the freeways and downtown LA traffic. We made our way to the Farmer's Market and the Grove. The Extra! TV show was filming on location at the Grove with Maria Menounos and Mario Lopez. After a nice lunch at outside at the Marmalade Bistro we set off for the NBC Studios through the downtown LA traffic

It took 20 minutes to get to the studio.We parked, went through security and got our numbered studio pass. We got number 176. At around 3:00 they started letting people into the studio in numbered sequence. Little did we know that there we three different colored tickets, white, red, blue!   Even though the were told that there were about 350 seats, number 176 didn't assure us a seat.  At 3:45 we were still waiting to get in for the 4:00 start time, while people with red and blue tickets were already inside the studio!

We were starting to worry that we wouldn't get in as the tickets "do not guarantee admission" and there were still about 100 people before & 100 after us . Luckily we were led into the studio and seated in one of the few remaining seats. Whew! Right after we were seated they closed the doors and the show began.

It is filmed "live on tape" breaking for commercials. The guests were Kim Kardasian and her new husband Kris Humphries, Lenny Wormald star of the new movie "Foot Loose" and former "Jr Mr Dance New England" from Stoughton, MA and singer LeAnn Rimes.

It was fascinating to see all the behind the scenes coordination and how the show is actually put together. It was all over by 5:15 and we fought the rush hour traffic back to Riverside.
