Cape Code Orleans - Again

For our summer vacation this year we decide to re-visit the same p[lace we stayed last year in Orleans. The house is immaculate and centrally located near Chatham & Brewster.

Cute little cottage on owners property

The evening we arrived we visited a little town beach on a lake not far from the cottage. We were the only ones there and enjoyed a little peace & quite as the sun set.

Cedar Grove Town Beach
Nauset beach that we visted last year was totally demolished by the winter hurricane.  Even the food stand that had been there "forever" was destroyed and will not be rebuilt!.  They did a good job of fixing the beach and dunes, but it will not be the same.  Later that evening there was a free concert at the beach. We stayed and listed to the "Rock Harbor Band".  They were really good and discovered that they will be playing later in the week over in Harwick.

Leter in teh week we decided to go to Hyannis to vist
the JFK Museum.  When the Twin Towers in NYC collapsed on 9/11, a majority of the JFK photo collection was lost.  They painstakingly tried to reconstruct the photos from the original photographers contact sheets of the photos. This new exhibit was the result of reconstructing these 'lost" photos.  They did a remarkable job.

Of course we did our usual tour of the mini golf courses.  Elly won again this vacation.  Maybe next time I will win.

Fixing a Rotten Back Door Threshold

Our back door jambs look like they were rotting out just like the front doo had a few years ago.  This happens because we don't have storm doors and the snow pile up against the wood. So I decide to fix it like I did the front.

Jambs cut, threshold removed, sub floor removed

I even had to replace some of the wall plate and reinforce the floor joists

Making progress, sub-floor replaced
While I was at it, I also replace some of the side that had been melted from the gas grill being too close to the house.

The entire mess.

All Done. Good as new
It took about a week because halfway through the project we had about three days of rain. This meant the I had to cover the entire project with a sheet of plastic.

Project completed, just in time for our vacation to the Cape.
