Cutting the Cable TV Cord - Part 4 Problem with VOIP

Last night our land line had no dial tone!.  I call 1-VOIP, they said they will sand out a new box FedEx overnight.  Today the box arrived, replace the old on and Voila! Land line back up & running!

TV Watching is going just fine, but its a little complicated for Elly. I have:
  1. Antenna for CBS, NBC and ABC Boston stations
  2. Laptop PC with Sling for CNN & ESPN
  3. Same laptop with a browser for hdtvshows.net
I ordered the Amazon Fire Box, but it won't ship until May 4.  It has Sling on it, so maybe I can get rid of the Laptop.

Cutting the Cable TV Cord - Part 3:Turning in my Set Top Boxes

Yesterday, I went to the Comcast store and turned in my Set Top Boxes for the TV.  No problems at the store, kept my Xfinity Blast Internet service.

When I got home, I had NO Internet service! Called Comcast support,  I was on the phone for over 4 hours with multiple support people.  They all assured me that everything was OK, and it should be working, they said they would send a tech out the next day.

Today when I woke up, I checked the modem and all the lights indicated it was OK. It worked fine.  I got a call from Comcast saying there was a problem in the area last night. What a coincidence!  I told him that I still wanted the tech to check the speed.

The tech came at 2:00 we chatted, checked the speed (230MBPS download) .  He said the phone support should have realized that there was a problem in the area when thousands of people from the same area called support.  Oh well.  All is fine now and I am saving $130 per month!

Cutting the Cable TV Cord - Part 2: Home Phone Land Line Porting

Since we still wanted to keep our land line and home phone number, I had decided to get the VOIP service from 1-VOIP.  Today, I had to take call forwarding off of the number on Comcast and wait for the port to happen.

Around 10:00 this morning I dialed the home phone number from my cell.  It rang!  Phone porting complete!  I looked at my Comcast Account and it said that I was no longer a Voice customer.  My bill went down from $230 to $211 per month.

Later this week I will bring all the TV boxes to the Comcast office and cancel my TV service.  Hope I don't get too much of a hassle.
